Assembly task boxes are some of my favourite activities to give my kiddos, and they love doing them too. When the students do their independent work activities, I usually try to give them one math based, one literacy based and one that is more fun and hands-on – what I call assembly tasks. These are any task boxes that require students to put something together. For my higher learners, they need to follow a picture or written list to complete the tasks. This is an invaluable skill that easily translates to workplace training when they get older.
These activities are really easy to make and most items can be found at your local dollar store, or even in your school supply cupboards. Dollarama and Dollar Tree are my two favourites places to find new materials. Here are some examples of task boxes using items from the dollar store:
Another great way to make assembly task boxes is to laminate wrappers that you and your kiddos have in lunches every day. It incorporates environmental print and is super engaging because these are snacks the kids recognize (and like to eat!). After Halloween is a perfect time to make some of these tasks (it’s also a great excuse to eat all that extra candy – it’s for educational purposes!)
I have also created some products that can be downloaded (they are available in my TPT store here: Assembly Tasks). These each have two levels and are really easy to put together – just print, laminate, cut apart and you are ready to go!
