One of my key organization strategies is colour coding. I love things bright and colourful, and the fact that I have 6 students makes it super easy. Each of my students is assigned a colour and all of their bins, books, etc. for the year will be that colour. It makes it really easy to sort and organize materials for each student and it also makes it easy for the students to find their work spaces and materials. The students will have the same colour the entire time that they are with me.

I also colour code all of my resources so that they are easy to find and put away. Unfortunately (for me and my anal organization) my file folders and task boxes don’t have the exact same colour categories. When I first started out I didn’t think that I’d have this many resources and didn’t thoroughly plan out my colour coding strategy. However, it still works and everything is easy to find. My task bins all have a sticker so everyone knows which shelves they go on: red = fine motor, orange = matching, yellow = sorting, green = assembly, blue = math, purple = literacy and pink = science.
My file folders have coloured stickers that indicate which drawer they go in these storage units. (I was really happy when I’d finally bought enough drawer towers to rearrange the drawers and make one of each colour!)
